The SEC has recently promoted the use of XBRL to disclose "high interest" information such as the summary information at the front of mutual fund reports and the executive pay disclosures in corporate reports. This is significant because XBRL is ideally suited to use for tagging individual data items, and its implementation for such purposes is considerably simpler than for whole sets of financial statements. there is a strong possibility that such use of XBRL will comprise a major part of total use.
