The 12th XBRL International Conference starts today in Tokyo and lasts until Thursday. The program features the considerable work going on in Asia, Europe and the US in implementing XBRL. In an Asian context, there is of course a great deal of work going on in Japan, in addition to Korea, Singapore and China. Key presentations on the XBRL implementation programs of the Tokyo Stock Exchange and the Bank of Japan are among those that will provide important information. In Europe, there has been considerable activity, particularly in the financial services sctor, to use XBRL to develop a common standard for the 25 countries of the EU to be able to file with their regulators on a consistent basis, while at the same time report in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Olivier Servais, Permanent Secretary of XBRL Europe will be outlining this and other activities in the EU. In addition, there will be presentations from the Bank of Spain and others on their experience so far. finally, there will be presentations from several important players in the US, including a new version of product being unveiled by Rivet Software, provider of the very popular XBRL tool "Dragon Tag" The presentations are always made available on the XBRL site.
