The 2009 XBRL International Conference
by Gerald TRites, FCA

The program for the 2009 International Conference is out and registrations are being taken. The conference is scheduled to take place in Paris from June 23 - 25, with a theme of "Reducing Reporting Burden with XBRL." The theme is a launch for the proposition that by reducing the reporting burden, XBRL can serve as a catalyst for better financial regulation, something that is timely and needed. Also something that financial managers are, or should be, thinking about seriously.

There are tracks in the banking and investment industries. Of particular interest to Canadians is the track on IFRS. With leading international experts on IFRS and XBRL on the roster, this track can be useful to anyone faced with IFRS conversion and the new XBRL filing requirements, which go hand in hand.

Justification of travelling to Paris during the current economic slump can be an issue for many people in the face of travel cutbacks. The fact is, however, that the issues under consideration at the conference are issues that need to be faced to find our way out of the slump and help to prevent a similar setback in the future. It's worth thinking about.

See the program-at-a-glance on the XII website.
